Ionizing Radiation

چکیده

Introduction Radiation that has sufficient energy to remove electrons from atoms is called “ionizing radiation.” Ionization results in the production of negatively charged free electrons and positively charged ionized atoms. Ionizing radiation can be classified into two groups: photons (includes X-radiation and gamma radiation) and particles (includes alpha and beta particles and neutrons). The radioactive compound thorium dioxide, which decays by emission of alpha particles, was first listed in the Second Annual Report on Carcinogens (1981), and radon and its most common isotopic forms (radon-220 and radon-222), which also emit primarily alpha particles, were first listed in the Seventh Annual Report on Carcinogens (1994). Three types of ionizing radiation (X-radiation, gamma radiation, and neutrons) were first listed in the Eleventh Report on Carcinogens (2004). X-radiation and gamma radiation are included in one listing. The profiles for X-radiation and gamma radiation, neutrons, radon, and thorium dioxide, which are listed as known to be human carcinogens, follow this introduction.

Synergic Effect of TC99-m Gamma Radiation and Non-ionizing Radiation of Wi-Fi on Count, Morphology and Motility of Sperms in Rats: An Experimental Study

Background: Given the effects of ionizing radiation on biological tissues and their irreversible tissue damage, this project aimed to determine the synergic effect of TC99-m gamma radiation and non-ionizing radiation of Wi-Fi on sperm characteristics in rats. Materials and Methods: Sixty adult male rats, weighing 250-200 g randomly divided into four groups (three experimental groups and one co...

Impact of Ionizing Radiation on the Expression of CDC25A Phosphatase (in vivo)

Background and Objective: The cell division cycle 25 (CDC25)is a familyof highly conserved dual-specificity phosphatases that activate cyclin-dependent kinase complexes. These complexes are the main cell cycle regulators. Mammalian cells ,exposure to DNA damaging radiations such as ionizing radiation and ultraviolet light, prevent cell cycle progression by activation of checkpoint pathways an...

Radioprotective effect of thymol against salivary glands dysfunction induced by ionizing radiation in rats

The aim of this study was to investigate the radioprotective effect of thymol as a natural product against salivary glands dysfunction induced by ionizing radiation in rats. The rats were treated with thymol at dose of 50 mg/Kg before exposure to radiation at dose 15Gy. Salivary gland function was evaluated with radioisotope scintigraphy and then salivary gland to background counts ratio was ca...

A Review of Outstanding Retinoblastoma Researches on RB1 Genes: Focus on Treatment by Non-ionizing and Ionizing Radiation

Introduction: Retinoblastoma (RB) is a malignant retinal tumor, which affects infants and children. This cancer happens through a mutation in the retinoblastoma tumor suppressor genes (RB1). Inactivation of RB1 has been observed in more than 97% of all retinoblastoma patients with mutations. In recent years, RB treatment has developed significantly. RBchr('39')s treatment methods can be one or ...

Study of radio protective effect of Thymus vulgaris essential oil against ionizing radiation on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs)

Introduction: Today ionizing radiation (IR) plays an important role in medicine, both in diagnostic and therapeutic field. Doctors, medical staff and patients are all in danger of side effects of IR so there is a need to protect them against deleterious effects of ionizing radiation.  Thymus vulgaris has biological activities like antioxidant and antibacterial activity. Aim of...
